Improve Your Attitude by Playing Your Winners

Have you ever noticed, when a certain item is a hot seller, there is a whole lot of promotion around the product. It seems everywhere you look, the product is being advertised. Retailers understand the benefit of playing the winners rather than trying to promote losers.

You can take this same approach to maintain a positive attitude. At every stage of life you deal with positive factors (winners) and negative factors (losers). If you’re not careful, the losers can push the winners to the background.

Blue ribbon positive attitudeRight now, Gerry has more losers than winners in his life. He is overweight; deeply in debt and his car seems to break down more often than it runs. There are two positive factors in his life: he is making progress in a career he loves and he is getting out and running every day. By focusing on these two winners, Gerry is maintaining a positive attitude. Not only that, running is getting his weight is under control and he just got a raise. This happened because he knows how to play his winners.

You have winners in your life. Focus on them. How can you do this? Here are three simple suggestions:

  1. Think more about your winners. The more you focus on the things you do well, the less time you will have to think about the negative. As the negative factors receive less attention, it is not unusual for some to resolve themselves.Try keeping a journal about what is going on in your life. Stress the positives when making entries. As your fall asleep at night, give some thought to the winners for tomorrow. You could find yourself falling asleep faster, and getting a better start the next day.
  2. Talk about your winners. The more you verbalize the positive events in your life, the more important they become for you. Droning on about the negatives of your situation serves to perpetuate your negative attitude and will aggravate those around you. (Too much talking about the positives may also aggravate those around you. Don’t over-do it.)
  3. Reward yourself by enjoying your winners. If you enjoy nature, take a nature walk. If music is a positive influence, listen to your favourite record. If you enjoy sports, organize a game.You play your winners every time you think or talk about them, but the best thing is to enjoy them. If you are a golfer, playing 18 holes will do more for your attitude than simply thinking or talking about it.

A Play Your Winners Exercise

List five positive factors in your life right now: people, activities, etc. Use only one or two words to capture each factor.

Now, when you start to feel your attitude taking a negative turn, play these winners!

    Wow, aint that the truth. It is kinda like that “The Secret” book, and thinking positive, positive will come.

    I know when I wear a white shirt, and I say I hope I don’t spill anything on it today, Sure enough I will have a stain. But if I am positive, and say “Wow do I love this shirt, or something and not focus on that bad “What if” it works out better.

    My sisters car is always breaking, and I am sure she brings it on herself, because thats all she ever frets about, and she is always waiting for it to break again. I swear its Karma, that she surrounds her self in.
