Motivation is the state of being ready for change. There are times when we want to change ourselves and times when others want us to change. Both can motivate us, but only we can decide when we’re ready and how we want to change.

Think of something about yourself you would like to change. Use the table below and list reasons other people want you to change and reasons why you want to change. Which is more likely to motivate you, what others want or by what you want? Which reasons motivate you more than others?

Make this list more than once. Use the dates to keep track of your motivation over time. Knowing what motivates you can help you decide whether you’re ready to make a change in your life.

But sometimes the best way out of a slump is by directly doing something really radical – moving, enrolling in a really challenging course, quitting your job, leaving a draining relationship. etc
