Find Freeware and Other Software Options with AlternativeTo
Find the price of ‘name’ application such as Photoshop or Microsoft Office more than you can manage? Perhaps you want to know what web-based, note-taking software is most popular. If so, take a look at AlternativeTo.
AlternativeTo is a new social web service —currently in beta— where users suggest alternative versions of software. You can browse the site and get the information you need or you can sign up and vote on the software listing in a Digg-like fashion. The site is new and could use a help adding more alternatives. However the software listed already makes for an excellent resource.
From their blog:
A whole new approach to finding good software. Tell us what application you want to replace and we give you suggestions on great alternatives! Instead of listing thousands of more or less crappy applications in a category, we make each application into a category. Think of it like forever evolving blog posts about good alternatives to the applications that you’re not satisfied with. And the “blog posts” are generated by you through suggestions, comments and votes (or “likes” as we call them).
