Evernote for iPhone Updates to 3.2

The iTunes App Store has the latest version of Evernote for the iPhone (iTunes). I’m a big Evernote user on-line and on my PC. However, because of its lack of speed, I haven’t embraced Evernote on the iPhone in the same way. Accessing notes was slow. If you were in an area with no 3G or wifi coverage, you couldn’t access at all. I’m on an unlimited data plan, but I understand users with limited plans found Evernote could eat up their bandwidth pretty quickly.

This release addresses those issues!

Changes include:

Local note caching
All notes you create or view on the iPhone will be cached locally, so you can view them again even without a network connection.

New “Sync” tab
All Sync and Account features are consolidated into one tab with real-time status of sync operations.

For Premium accounts: Offline notebooks
Premium users can now choose to fully download any and all of their notebooks to the device, making them instantly accessible, even when not connected.

Upgrade to Evernote Premium in-app
You can buy a month or year of Evernote Premium from the new Sync tab in the app.

Longer Audio Note recording
This latest version doubles the length of Audio Note recordings, to 20 minutes.

Speed improvements
Evernote claims is faster: launching, searching, syncing, making new notes, browsing, etc. (This will take some use to confirm.)

Local searching

Editing rich-text notes

Search while synchronizing

New “All Notes” button for viewing

All-in-all, these look like some useful updates for the app. I’ll be trying them out of the next little while and will see how much noticeable improvement there is.
