Beginning of Summer 2005

Connors Road June 20 2005

I took these two pictures just before 10:00 p.m. on June 20, 2005, to give some indication of the amount of light we have, come the longest day of the year. Both of these were taken handheld, from our front yard, looking towards downtown, with my little 3.2 megapixel Pentax. The shot on the left/top/first was exposed for the trees, cars, etc., while the one on the right/bottom/second shot tried to catch the light available in the sky.

The point of this post is to try out a couple of BlogJet image features. (Whoa! As I typed the software name in the previous sentence, it automatically became a hyperlink.)

Teach Yourself to Play the Guitar

Classical GuitarMy friend Karlene Guy has a music studio in Sherwood Park. She'd be the first to tell you the importance of a good music teacher to learning to play an instrument. I would agree with her. I’ve done a fair bit of music teaching myself and know how beneficial it can be.

However, there are countless numbers of guitar players who have learned to play by picking up an instrument and a chord book and sitting in their room trying to match the guitar lines on some popular song. My first guitar was a refurbished classical guitar that my mother owned. She had a local repair shop add tuning machines and new strings and gave my the guitar —along with a chord book— as a Christmas gift. Pure bliss!

The Guitar Noise Wiki aims to be one resource for people learning to play the guitar. The wiki points to tutorial content posted throughout the Guitar Noise web-site, making it easy to find content such as: tune your guitar, learn music notation or the chords for House of the Rising Sun. You’ll find everything you need to help you learn to play the guitar.

Of course, if you want to become proficient on a musical instrument, a good music teacher is a must.
