Today is the day put aside to celebrate the Sovereign’s birthday. Originally proclaimed to celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria, May 24 1819, it was changed in 1953, observe the Queen’s birthday on the Monday before May 24. Elizabeth II was born April 21, 1926. (I believe the Brits celebrate her birthday in June.)
