Okay, I confess. I need my wife. There, I’ve said it, I need my wife.
Oh, I don’t mean I need her to look after me; to feed me, to dress me, keep the place clean or get me where I’m going, on time. I’m a grown up and I figured out how to do those things a long time ago. We know our strengths and weaknessess and are doing a pretty good job of fitting them together. She does a better job of lawn maintenance, but I love to work in the kitchen. She has a good eye for decorating and I can move the furniture. It balances nicely. It’s more than that.
I need my wife.
And I don’t I need her to have my tastes and my interests. She lets me watch West Wing, I let her watch E.R. and we watch Monk together. She reads Bill Bryson, I read Ian Fleming and we both like Dorothy Sayers. She gets soothed by Michael W. Smith, I irritate her with Bob Dylan and we go to concerts together. No, it’s still more than that.
I need my wife.
I need her companionship, her friendship, her support. I need her to be the first person I speak to in the day and the one I kiss good night just before falling asleep. I need someone who shares ideas with me. I need someone who will make plans and create a life with me.
And no, I’m not just learning this after six short months of marriage. I’ve known it for a long time now. In fact, it was a big reason for wanting to get married.
I confess. I need my wife. I love my wife.

Good confession to make!
What a great post Ian.
I suspect that will get you a few brownie points,(:^) but even if it didn't, it's great to read about good relationships. Blog on!
::sigh::
What a beautiful post!
It's a good thing I didn't read this at work - tears everywhere! And I still say I'm the lucky one. 143
That's very sweet; I've been married not quite 2 years myself, and I know what you're talking about. Marriage is great, isn't it!
Oh, and I picked you for my Top Five this week. :-)
I hope that loving feeling stays with you both for ever and a day.
Two weeks in a row. Nice goin'. Top 5! (Sorry so late.)
