Compacting your Lotus Notes' Workspace

Posted at August 12, 2003 03:45 PM in Computer Tips .

You may have heard of compacting Lotus Notes Databases to recover unused storage space. You can also save some disk space on your machine by compacting your workspace.

  • From your Notes Workspace, make sure none of the icons are selected and click on the right mouse button.
  • Select Workspace Properties… from the pop-up menu. (If you don’t see this option, a database icon must have been already selected. Just click anywhere outside the database icon and try again.)
  • The properties box appears for the workspace. Click on the tab with the icon that looks like a little propeller beanie.
  • Click the button labelled % used. If it is below 85%, you may want to compact your workspace.
  • Click on the Compact button. A progress indicator will pop up.
  • Tracking the Size before and after will show you how much space was freed-up.
