Americans Draw Theological Beliefs From Diverse Points of View

Latest from Barna Research

(Ventura, CA) - Nine out of ten adults own at least one Bible and eight out of ten consider themselves to be Christian, but you'd never know it from the smorgasbord of religious beliefs professed by most people. A new nationwide survey conducted by the Barna Research Group indicates that a large share of the people who attend Protestant or Catholic churches have adopted beliefs that conflict with the teachings of the Bible and their church.

Coming Through Loud and Clear

Communicating effectively means more than just knowing what to say and when to say it. It involves subtle signals your body language sends to those around you. Here are some common actions and the impressions they create:

  • fiddling with your watch, pen or ring - looks as if you're bored or impatient
  • looking at a clock or watch - implies you want to move on to something else
  • tapping your foot - suggests nervousness or impatience
  • staring unblinkingly at the other person - suggests aggression
  • sitting with legs crossed or body hunched - suggests you're trying to make yourself smaller, as if you lack confidence
  • sitting with arms crossed - appears as though you're defending yourself against the other person
  • touching your face while talking - implies timidity, especially if you have your hand in front of your mouth
  • rubbing your nose, looking away - sometimes suggests lying
  • avoiding eye contact - suggests low interest or lack of confidence
