How to Organize Your Christmas Organzing
Posted in Productivity Wednesday
Over the past month, I’ve posted a few articles on Christmas planning. While the planning stage is important, you can easily waste time looking for all the things you need to work on. When it comes time to execute your holiday plan, you need to be able to find the stuff.
There are two types of items you need to keep organized:
- Short-term: the items you need to take care of this year’s Christmas committments.
- Long-term: the Christmas items you use year to year.
Short-term items – if you’ve got a room or an area to dedicate to these functions, great; if not, use plastic storage containers to keep things neat when not in use.
- wrapping supplies: boxes, wrapping paper, gift bags, tape, tissue paper, kraft paper for mailing, ribbons, bows, etc.
- writing supplies: pens, pencils, cards, stationery, envelopes, stamps, stickers, etc.
- gift centre: a place to store all gifts as they are bought. (If you’re really organized throughout the year, this could also be a long-term storage need.)
- current projects: if you make you own Christmas gifts or decorations, etc., have an area put aside where you can work and store the necessary supplies.
Long-term items – these are items that are used year after year, but need to be stored somewhere for 11 months of the year.
- decorations: tree(s), lights, wreaths, ornaments, etc. Larger items can have there own containers, smaller items can be stored in smaller box and then organized in a larger tub. (This process works for any seasonal decortation you might have, not just Christmas.)
- filing: gift lists, card lists, magazines with season ideas, recipes, planning checklists. This doesn’ have to be in a filing cabinet, you can use other types of storage to hold files.
- media: seasonal books, movies and CDs, any of those things that you read watch or listen to only at Christmas.ant to go through to see if there are any projects or recipes you can use for your holiday planning this year.
