WriteToMyBlog

I am writing this post in WriteToMyBlog, a new web-based word processor for your blog, based on TinyMCE the Javascript wysiwyg text editor. I also used WriteToMyBlog to publish yesterday’s post, Define the Problem.

Its main benefit would seem to be the number of rich-text formatting options available. Most blog editors stick to the basics: bullets, bold, italics, underline, insert image and links. WTMB adds: tables, sub/superscript, special characters, layers, CSS editing, anchor tags and more. One feature I miss is the ability to save a copy to my computer. I don’t publish drafts in Wordpress, preferring to be able to edit blog posts when offline. (Of course, if I’m offline, I can’t access WTMB.)

It was easy to configure my blog account for posting. Account log-in data is not transmitted to a servers elsewhere, but is stored using strong encryption in the browser’s preferences. Adding categories happens after clicking the Publish button, but is intuitive. Shortcut key combinations work, which is not always the case in blog editors. The only quirk I’ve encountered is spacing around punctuation marks. For example, I’ll type a comma and an extra space will be inserted, but not everytime.

All in all, if you are looking for a more robust, on-line blog editor. WriteToMyBlog is worth checking out.
