10 Point Self-management checklist

  1. Set clearly defined goals. Make them specific, measurable, acceptable, realistic, and
  2. Record your hit rate. Track your successes and failures.
  3. Make a public commitment. It’s more difficult to back ut of a personal goal when you have asked others to keep you accountable.
  4. Meet regularly with your accountibility partner. Don’t just ask someone to keep you accountable; meet with them regularly to review progress.
  5. Set personal penalties for failure. Give small rewards to your accountability partmer as penalties for your missing a target or failing on a behaviour.
  6. Think small. Don’t think about losing 50 pounds, think about losing one pound and repeat 50 times.
  7. Specify the amount you’re going to produce. Define your small steps. Don’t just say, I’m going to do some reading, specify the number of pages you need to read in the session.
  8. Get a timer that beeps every x minutes and chart whether you’re on task. Divide your task into appropriate segments and use a timer to keep you on track.
  9. Put Satan behind you.” Get rid of distractions; temptations that keep you from meeting your goals.
  10. Recycle. If your self-management project falls apart. Don’t discard it. Look at the parts that worked and recycle them. Examine those things that didn’t work and find a way to make them better.
