One of the dangers of the self-examination of personal development is getting caught up in yourself and life. Making changes to the way we live requires a strong self-awareness, which comes through serious reflection.

As we look back on bad decisions we may have made, it’s easy to get discouraged or find our self-esteem diminishing. If we allow discouragement to take hold, it will weigh down our efforts at self-improvement.

You have to balance the serious with fun. This doesn’t mean going through life as a goofball. It does mean: it will be hard to worry when you’re having a laugh.

Next time you feel overwhelmed by the serious in your life, balance it with something frivolous or superficial.
