The first mind mapping application for the iPhone has been released. MindMaker allows a user to create, view and edit mind maps on the iPhone.
There is not much information available about this tool, other than a brief QuickTime video that shows what it can do. At the moment, MindMaker’s feature-set appears to be basic: you can create topics and sub-topics, move them from one position to another within your map by tapping and dragging.
The Help/Support page on the website is limited to five FAQ’s. If you’ve used the iPhone for any length of time, it won’t take you too long to figure out how to use the few features currently available.
An update page on the MindMaker website promises these features will be available in versions 1.1 and 1.2:
- Mind maps can be saved as images
- Support for Landscape mode
- Translucent hideable interface
- Exporting mind maps will be possible in MindMaker 1.2
- MindMaker will be able to upload mind maps to a web application from which users can download it in different formats.
Features planned for future versions
- Cross links between nodes
- Reordering of nodes
- Editable colors
- Export to different formats
As a proof-of-concept, it shows some potential for mapping on the iPhone. The $4.99 price tag seems high for the few current features. You might want to wait until a few of the promised features have been added before paying for MindMaker.
