I notice that Cricket still isn’t an official Olympic sport; unlike that classic, BMX racing. It may be the confusion surrounding the game of Cricket.
Many think Cricket is an incomprehensible sport. However, once you understand the basics, it is quite straightforward.
Here are the rules of Cricket, simplified:
- You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
- Each player that’s in the side that’s in, goes out, and when he’s out, he comes in and the next player goes in until he’s out.
- When they are all out the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
- Sometimes you get players still in and not out.
- When both sides have been in and out including the not-outs, that’s the end of the game.

My husband is an avid cricket fan and I got him to explain the game to me. After 3 years being with him, I still do not understand the game.
All I know that there is a Test Match that goes on for 5 days, one day matches and the new 20/20 matches and THEY ALL HAVE DIFFERENT RULES!!

Of course once you’ve got the basics you need to learn fielding positions; silly point, extra cover, deep fine leg… Then on to bowling options; googly, chinaman, yorker…
I really enjoy the game, but the closest it will get to the 2012 Olympics is Lords, the home of cricket, being used as the archery venue http://www.london2012.com/venues/lord-s-cricket-ground.php
