Build Your Perfect GTD System

has posted some thoughts at Davidco on putting together the best set of tools for a GTD system. She points out, rightly so, that there are 60+ software options and hundreds if not thousands of web sites focusing on David Allen’s system.

With all those choices out there, building the “perfect” GTD system can be an overwhelming process; but it doesn’t have to be. She notes, “Choosing your system comes down to your personal preference.” She lists four tips —I’d call them rules— for putting together your perfect system:

  1. Start with what you know
  2. Populate your system as thoroughly as you can and review it regularly
  3. Make you system portable
  4. Give yourself time to make it a habit.

I have broken and re-broken these rules in my quest to get things done. I’m going to print the four tips and stick them to my bulletin board. The next time I am tempted to go chasing someone else’s system, they can be a reminder to stick with what works.

    May I append 0. IF you have any own system already
    THEN review your system from a GTD point of view…

    That’s part of what I got out of her first tip. Look to your current system first. I think that’s big step that people overlook.
