10 Quick Time Management Tips for Managers

The committee of one. Avoid involving unnecessary people in the decision-making process.- E-mail – fast answers. If you can respond in less than five minutes, do so.
- Handle correspondence once. Don’t put it back in the pile. Respond right away, as above or get it into a system for processing when it can be answered.
- Have a follow-up file. If you must wait for information before answering mail or are waiting on someone’s input before proceeding, use a follow-up file. David Allen calls this Waiting For.
- Ensure understanding when delegating. – Extra time invested to insure complete understanding pays big dividends in time saved. Click here for tips on effective delegation.
- Manage your calendar. Develop an effective system for handling appointments and other date-sensitive events.
- Waste-basket ball. Learn to toss unnecessary paper.
- Form letters and templates. Set-up templates and form letters for both hard-copy and e-mail responses to standard queries.
- Make time to plan and organize. – Make planning and review a regular part of your schedule. A look ahead is worth two behind.
- Personal training and development. Careful selection of seminars, conferences and course provides:

- objective view…
- solutions from others…
- current thinking in field…
- networking opportunities…
