An Introduction to Mind Mapping

DigitalmindmapThree or so years ago, when it came time for my wife and I to buy a new house, we pasted a huge sheet of news print on the wall of our spare room and mapped out the process from the start, through the purchase, and on to the completed move. While I have used mind maps for note taking, for a number of years, that was the first time I used mind mapping as a planning tool.

I have tried a number of mind mapping programs on my computer, but still have a ways to go in the efficient application of such software.

Jaymi Elford has started a series of three articles that will provide an overview of the mind mapping process and how they can be applied to various areas of your life. Her first post, Creating a Web of Ideas: An Intro to Mind Maps, is up at D*I*Y Planner. (I’ll update this post with links to the other articles as they become available.)

Update - March 15: Part 2 has been posted - Mind Mapping a Project from Start to Finish

Update – March 22: Part 3 has been posted – Mind Mapping Resources and Wrap-up

Over at BizTechTalk, Dan Keldsen has posted a podcast interview with Michael Scherotter, Solution Platform Product Manager at Mindjet (www.mindjet.com), makers of MindManager and with Richard Love, Senior Director of Quality Systems at Stiefel (www.stiefel.com) a Pharmaceutical company - who is a user of MindManager. In the interview they discuss applying mind mapping to the Getting Things Done system.
