10 Sites for Quotations and More

It’s been said that a facility for quoting others can cover a lack of intelligence or original thought. And sometimes that’s probably true. However, I can’t imagine any discipline where one would be expected to ignored the foundation that has been laid by others as part of their own learning. There is a lot of knowledge to be culled and transfered from others.

When I am looking for quotations, these are 10 sites I have bookmarked:

  1. – A wiki of quotes from the Wikipedia family of reference.
  2.  – thousands of quotations organized by topic, author and type.
  3. Famousquotations.com – quotations, quotes and proverbs.
  4.  (pop-up alert) – The oldest quotation site on the Web, with more than 25,200 quotations from over 3,000 authors.
  5. – a compendium of quotations.
  6. Quotelady.com – An old-school style web site focussing on inspirational quotations organized in dozens of categories.
  7.  – Over 54,000 Easily Searchable Quotes.
  8. – The text of the 10th edition of the “gold standard” in quotation collections.
  9. World’s best quotes in 1-10 words – 10 quotes that are less than 10 words.
  10. Tom Peters’ “Top 41″ quotes and other free stuff – the Top 41 quotes are a project from 2006 that are compiled in a PDF and offered —along with a load of other free Tom Peters’ material— for download.

And a plus: A list of to use in presentations from Presentation Zen.
