Binder Clips - The New Duct Tape?
Is there anything you can’t do with binder clips.
Lifehacker posts about using binder clips to keep hanging folders from sliding.
By attaching some basic binder clips to his drawer’s folder rails, his folders are no longer victim to the forces of momentum, and files he wants to keep within quick reach stay that way.
They also link to a couple of other binder-clip hacks:
- Using clips to hold your computer cables.
- Keep the toothpaste tube squeezed neatly.
Of course, the Hipster PDA, depends on binder clips, and you can weigh down your wardrobe with the Binder Clip Dress.
But why stop there, here are some ways I have used binder clips:
- Holding open books: recipe, music, instruction, etc.
- Clip groups of electronics’ wires together.
- Holding snack and cereal bags closed.
- Hanging pictures informally. A length of wire attached to the wall and snapshots clipped to the wire. Also works with Christmas cards.
- Holding back curtains.
- I have no hair, but I’ve seen them used as hair clips. The spring seems a little strong from my perspective: more likely to pull out hair.
- Of course, holding papers together.

When I was little we used them as Barbie purses. All the new colors make them much more fashionable now! ![]()
While I will probably never use them for my hair, I have seen someone demonstrate it on an entertainment channel. In case one ever needs a hair emergency. I use them for displaying favorite photos on my desk. They look really cool and creative that way actually.

I have binder clips holding my xmas lights to my gutters.
